FRA Chairman Congratulates Dr. Khaled El-Enany on Election as UNESCO’s Director-General  Tuesday 7 October 2025

Dr. El-Enany is the first Egyptian and Arab to be elected Director-General of UNESCO.

Dr. Mohamed Farid, FRA Chairman extended his warmest congratulations to Dr. Khaled El-Enany, former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, on his election as Director-General of UNESCO. The election took place during the UNESCO Executive Board’s 222nd  session in Paris.

Dr. Farid expressed immense pride in this well-deserved selection, noting that it recognizes Dr. El-Enany’s scientific expertise, vast international experience and enlightened vision in the fields of culture, education and heritage. He called the appointment a crowning achievement marking a career distinguished by significant national accomplishments and global contributions.

FRA Chairman emphasized that selecting an Egyptian for this top international post underscores the high status of Egyptian competencies on the global stage and reflects the international community’s respect for Egypt’s role in promoting culture, education and sustainable development.

Dr. Mohamed Farid extended his wishes for continued success to Dr. Khaled El-Enany in his new role, urging him to pursue his efforts to enhance UNESCO’s mission of promoting global peace, knowledge and human development, while building bridges of understanding between the world’s diverse nations and cultures.

Dr. El-Enany is making history as the first Egyptian and Arab to assume this prestigious position, succeeding the French Audrey Azoulay. This achievement strongly reflects the international community’s confidence in Egyptian expertise and its ability to successfully lead major global cultural institutions.
